Last night, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to deny the proposed countywide text amendment related to data centerdevelopment (Item 2025-0972).
I want to thank the residents who attended the public hearing, submitted comments, and participated in this important conversation. Your engagement demonstrated the strength of civic participation in DeKalb County and played a critical role in informing the Board’s decision.
Throughout this process, residents raised significant concerns about the potential impacts of data centers on our communities, including energy and water consumption, infrastructure demands, environmental impacts, noise, and overall quality of life. Many also expressed the need for additional information and greater community engagement before the County establishes a framework for future data center development.
After considering the public input and the questions that remain unanswered, the Board concluded that it would be premature to move forward at this time. This vote reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that all decisions are guided by sound analysis, meaningful public engagement, and a clear understanding of their impacts on our communities.
I remain committed to listening, learning, and working collaboratively wit residents, stakeholders, and my colleagues to ensure that any future discussions about data centers reflect the values and priorities of the people of DeKalb County.
Thank you for your advocacy, participation, and dedication to our community.
